Anyone change struts on a 300m?

My father-in-law asked me today if I would help him change the struts on his 300M next weekend.

We are alway working on something in his garage... and we've never run into anything we couldn't figure out.

Would just like to have some info before jumping into it...

Any tech article's or how to's would be appreciatedAnyone change struts on a 300m?
I forget what years the M was made, and Autozone doesn't seem to have anything on the 300's anyway, but this procedure should be pretty similar. The tie rod or stabilizer bar mount might be a little different.

The main thing is to make sure you have access to a spring compressor, unless you're gonna change the whole assembly. They're pretty much universal, and most parts stores will rent you one. (actually, a pair for the basic style) Just let them know it's for McPherson struts.

It can also be a little tricky getting the strut cartridge shaft loose from the upper mount, depending on what kind of wrenches you have. You can always grab the shaft with a vise grip to take them off, but you don't want to do that putting the new one in. Might want to check that you have a wrench combo that can get at the nut and the stud at the same time, to get the nut loose while holding the shaft from turning.

And get an alignment done soon after. I think they have cam eccentrics on the strut to knuckle bolts. If so, try to get them in about the same position until alignment. Match-mark with a scribe or a daub of paint helps. Same with the upper mount if there's any adjustability there.Anyone change struts on a 300m?
