When lowering a car., do you have to get different shocks/ struts?

im wanting to lower my Audi 5000 probably an inch. i think to usually achieve this you just cut the spring. first of all if not, then how? and second and most importantly, do i have to get different struts, or will they adjust to the change? When lowering a car., do you have to get different shocks/ struts?
some time u can buy drop spring for a mcpherson sturtbut on an old audi just cut the spings its cheaper that wayWhen lowering a car., do you have to get different shocks/ struts?

You should change the struts , they are not made for lowering springs and will negatively affect your handling .
