Ask why they need replaced. Unless you are having tire wear,handling or ride issues I'd leave them on. They may be worn,but I personally don't replace struts till they start to cause problems. BE SURE THEY ARE NOT CAUSING PROBLEMS,any broken components could make your car unsafe. if your answer is they are just worn out,or it's the recommended mileage for replacement, leave them alone save the money. $800 is probably average for a dealer to replace them, if you find a local shop you trust they may save some money.Is $800 too much to pay for replacing rear struts on a 2001 Honda Civic sedan?
I am going against most of my mechanic will-power here. Yes, we (mechanics) almost all check your car for additional needs, that's how we make our living and keep your car going. However when it comes to rear struts I would say don't change them without a good reason. The best reasons to change them being: it affects ride quality of the car and YOU (being the driver) can't stand the way it rides anymore.There is a strut noise that again YOU (being the driver) can't stand anymore. The absolute most important reason to change them is if it were a safety issue. Which means if there were the possibility the strut were to come apart and cause further damage and injury. Unlikely it is the last one, anything is possible. Now that being said you can ask your dealer why are you telling me I need rear struts? When they give their answer reply (unless included in the answer they give you) with and what could be the possibilities if I don't replace them? If they just started leaking then you have time to call around and get other quotes, dealers will quote using oem parts and there are allot of after market struts available. I'm sure you can find a shop that doesn't charge $75.00 per hour labor charge like your dealer does. Shop around and save your self tons of money. I would bet that if you got the strut part numbers from your dealer parts department you could find the same thing online for half the money too, then just pay the mechanic labor time, should be about 1 1/2 hours labor, slightly more if there is allot of rust.Is $800 too much to pay for replacing rear struts on a 2001 Honda Civic sedan?
Sure. Everything wears out and they are there to try to keep the car operating like new so they always want to replace the worn parts. But $800 is double the normal cost at an independent garage. Not really, but be sure to use only genuine Honda parts. If the strut cartridge is bad, it will show signs of leaking fluid. Some of them are gas-charged. You may be able to negotiate the price down, or buy the parts, and have a mechanic shop install these parts for less. does the price include the struts? if not then they are ripping you. if you decide to have them do the job just say i don,t want nothing else done, just the struts. i could do it for half that cost. all you would have to do is furnish the struts.Is $800 too much to pay for replacing rear struts on a 2001 Honda Civic sedan?
any private shop or chain will do all 4 for 800 dollars...dealer cost a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
